In short: vacation apartment or hotel?
- What it costs: in a fairly central location, a small room runs 100 to 150 euros a night, and a spacious studio for a couple 150 to 250 euros a night.
- Who it pays off for: families of three or more. For a couple, the gap between a small apartment and a hotel room has narrowed a lot in recent years.
- What to check before you book: whether there’s an elevator and what floor the apartment is on. In the historic buildings of Paris, an elevator is the exception rather than the rule.
- The areas I recommend: the Marais (3rd and 4th) for a central base, the Latin Quarter (5th) for families, and the 16th and 17th for peace and quiet and lower prices.
- How this page works: first Udi’s apartments, which I recommend (I’ve stayed in some of them myself), then a search of apartments I picked on Booking.com, the most popular apartments by size, and finally apartments by arrondissement.
- Disclosure: some of the links are affiliate links, at no extra cost to you.
An apartment in Paris will make you feel like a real Parisian for a few days. Renting an apartment is also a cheaper option if you’re traveling with your family, and I haven’t even mentioned the culinary perks of renting an apartment in Paris…
So if you’re looking for an apartment, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve gathered a selection of recommended apartments here, and all that’s left for you is to pick the one that suits you best.

My favorite apartments in Paris
In 2019 I met a lovely man named Udi, who owns several apartments in Paris. In 2021 I stayed in his apartment near Place de la Concorde for the first time and fell in love with the luxurious amenities (excellent beds, a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning and more) and the excellent service. For me, it’s the perfect solution when I travel with my parents.
So it’s no surprise that every time I come to Paris, I rent a different apartment from him. If you’re lucky and one of the apartments below is free on your travel dates, I recommend you don’t think twice and grab it.
The Marais and central Paris

I stayed here!

The apartment near Place de la Concorde
This is the first of Udi’s apartments I stayed in with my parents, and we had a wonderful time! It’s a spacious apartment that offers a luxurious Parisian living experience in the heart of the city. It’s a short walk from the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Garden, and it’s equipped down to the last detail to make sure your family has a perfect stay. The ideal combination of space, comfort and a great location.
Nearest metro station: Concorde
- Huge: bedroom + living room + 2 bathrooms
- Great location and luxurious design
- Fairly high price (but reasonable for a family)
-
I stayed here!

The apartment near the Tuileries Garden
A compact apartment on Rue Saint-Roch, next to the Church of Saint-Roch and a short walk from the Tuileries Garden, the Louvre and the Palais-Royal. It’s ideal for a couple, but it can also sleep 3–4 people thanks to a sofa bed in addition to the king-size bed. It has two bathrooms, a big advantage when you’re traveling as a family (in the morning, when everyone is rushing to get out and explore, you’ll definitely feel it). The windows face an inner courtyard, so the apartment is wonderfully quiet and you’ll sleep soundly, even though it’s in the heart of Paris.
Nearest metro station: Palais Royal (line 1)
- Two bathrooms
- Wonderfully quiet: the windows face an inner courtyard
- The Tuileries Garden, the Louvre and the Palais-Royal a short walk away
- A minute’s walk from metro line 1
- King-size bed with a hotel-quality mattress
- 4th floor with an elevator, air conditioning
- Studio, no separate bedroom
-

Apartment no. 1 near the Pompidou
An apartment in a simply perfect location, just steps from the Centre Pompidou. You’ll find careful modern design alongside old-world charm, and it makes a perfect base for couples or small families who want to experience the Marais up close. No wonder I try to book this apartment every time I come to Paris (sadly, often without success, because it gets snapped up very quickly).
Nearest metro station: Rambuteau
- Historic building with an elevator (rare!)
- Perfectly equipped, close to the metro
- The western Marais is fairly crowded
-
I stayed here!

Nearest metro station: Rambuteau
- Cheaper than the larger apartment in the same building
- Ideal for a small family
- Smaller in size
-

Apartment no. 3 (studio)

Questions and answers about apartments in Paris
How much does it cost to rent an apartment in Paris?
Until the early 2000s, most people who visited Paris stayed in hotels. But then, as the internet took hold, vacation rentals came into our lives and offered a cheaper, roomier way to stay in Paris.
Add to that the magical feeling of being a Parisian for a few days and being able to cook the finest dishes of France in your apartment (or at least heat them up in a toaster oven), and you’ve got a winning way to stay.
So it’s no surprise that when I wrote the guide How to save money in Paris without cutting corners, I recommended vacation rentals as the cheaper and more pleasant alternative to a hotel.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridges of the Seine since then, and things have started to change, not necessarily for the better. Demand for apartments led companies like Airbnb to raise prices and add fee after fee. At the same time, competition pushed hotels to lower their prices, and the result is that today the price difference between a small apartment and a hotel room is fairly small.
How much will it cost you to rent a vacation apartment in Paris? It’s not an easy question to answer.
The main reason is that, unlike hotels, where there’s a certain standard that directly affects the price (the star rating system), any apartment owner in Paris can, in theory, ask for whatever they want. Even so, here’s my estimate of what’s reasonable to pay for a fairly central apartment in Paris in 2026:
- Small room: 100–150 euros a night
- Fairly spacious studio for a couple: 150–250 euros a night
- Apartment for a small family (3–4 people): 250–350 euros a night
- Fairly large apartment (5–6 people): 350 euros and up.
Of course, all of this is a rough estimate and depends on many factors, such as the condition of the apartment, the time of year and so on. Aparthotels will usually cost more than renting a private apartment, but you’ll often get cleaning services and a 24/7 reception.
Who should rent an apartment in Paris?
As you can see, apartment prices are in some cases not much lower than a hotel room. Add to that being tied to the apartment and the fact that nobody cleans up after you, and you’re surely asking yourself: does all this mean you should give up on an apartment and book a hotel room? Not necessarily.
To decide whether an apartment or a hotel suits you, all you need to do is ask yourself two questions:
How many of you will there be?
If you’re a couple or traveling solo, an apartment may not be worth it, because the price difference between an apartment and a hotel isn’t big.
On the other hand, if you’re a family of 3 or more, an apartment with several bedrooms (or a bedroom and a living room with a sofa bed) is an excellent option, because it will cost you much less than renting several hotel rooms.
What will the pace of your trip be?
If this is your first time in Paris and you’re planning to rush around the city all day chasing attractions, I highly recommend a hotel, because you won’t spend much time in the room anyway.
On the other hand, if you’re seasoned Francophiles who want to enjoy a slower pace, an apartment in Paris is the right option for you. An apartment like this lets you head down to the neighborhood market in the morning, buy a fresh baguette, cheese, fish, meat and any delicacy you can think of, and celebrate the start of the day with a lavish breakfast.
The apartment also gives you a place to come back to during the day to rest a little and enjoy all the treats you bought yourself while wandering around Paris.
Which Paris arrondissements should you avoid staying in?
Even though quite a few poorer neighborhoods have gone through gentrification, for safety reasons I still recommend not staying in the 18th arrondissement (except the touristy part of Montmartre), the 19th (except perhaps the Buttes-Chaumont area) and parts of the 20th. I’d also be less inclined to recommend the western parts of the 15th and 16th, because they’re fairly boring areas far from the center.
Which arrondissements do you love staying in?
I love staying in the Marais, near the Louvre Museum and recently I also fell in love with Montparnasse, so I really love staying there too.
Which apartment booking sites do you recommend?
There are quite a few booking sites, some reliable and some less so. To help you book only from a reliable site and compare prices easily, I created the Francophile’s Toolkit, where you’ll find all the best sites for booking your hotel in Paris (or anywhere else in France).
