The 10th arrondissement is especially good for advanced Francophiles and for the young at heart. The best area to stay is around the Canal Saint-Martin, which is full of life, cafés and bars, or around Place de la République, a major transport hub that gives you easy access to the whole city and to the northern Marais.
As for the Gare du Nord area, I recommend it less at night, but there are some lovely streets just south of the station that are safe and very pleasant.
🏆 The Francophile’s top picks (in short)
Appartement Canal Saint-Martin
The most Parisian atmosphere. A stylish apartment in shades of blue, in a quiet, peaceful spot right on the bank of the canal.
HolidaysInParis – Republique
The most convenient and accessible. A pleasant apartment near Place de la République (a huge metro hub), within walking distance of the Marais.
Ecoloflat
An eco-friendly apartment, quiet and bright, with high ceilings. The kitchen is ridiculously well equipped (including a dishwasher and a washing machine).
If you’re staying near the Canal Saint-Martin, do what the locals do: buy some wine and cheese in the evening and have a picnic on the banks of the canal (on warm days, of course).

Le Poissonnière
A small, pleasant apartment with wooden floors, right for a couple, in the area between Gare de l’Est and the Grands Boulevards. For getting around, this is one of the most convenient spots in Paris: trains leave from here for eastern France and Germany, and Gare du Nord, with the train to the airport, is within walking distance. The Grands Boulevards, with their historic movie theaters and covered passages, start a few minutes away. And that’s also the catch: the area around the train stations is busy, and in the evening it’s less well kept than the other areas on this list. If you’re coming with small children or you’re sensitive to a gritty urban setting, consider another arrondissement. I recommend it if you’re arriving by train, staying a night or two and moving on.
- Wooden floors, a pleasant apartment for a couple
- A few minutes from Gare de l’Est and the Grands Boulevards
- The train station area is busy and less well kept in the evening
-

Artisan Lofts
A loft with a young design, colorful walls and a mezzanine bed, which frees up the whole living space below. It’s a classic Parisian solution for small apartments, and it works well for a couple or for friends. The location is on the border between the 10th arrondissement and the Marais: Place de la République, the bars of Rue de Bretagne and the Canal Saint-Martin are all within walking distance, and from here you can keep going south into the 3rd arrondissement on foot. Mind the built-in downside of a mezzanine: you get up there by a ladder or steep stairs, and that isn’t for everyone. The ceiling above the bed is also low, by nature. I recommend it for a young couple or two friends, and not for anyone who gets up at night to use the bathroom.
- A mezzanine bed that frees up the living space
- On the edge of the Marais, walking distance from Place de la République
- The mezzanine is reached by a ladder or steep stairs

Romantic Apartment
A 70 m² apartment (about 750 sq ft) with two real double bedrooms, meaning not a sofa bed passed off as a room. The design here is classic French and not the generic international standard that has taken over short-term rentals, and that’s exactly what makes staying in an apartment different from staying in a hotel. The 10th arrondissement gives you excellent access to everywhere in the city, and I’ve gathered the attractions in the 10th arrondissement on a separate page. Note that this is a private rental: no front desk, no daily cleaning, and everything is arranged with the hosts only. I recommend it for two couples traveling together or a family with older kids, and you should arrange your arrival time in advance.
- 70 m² with two double bedrooms
- Classic French design, not a generic rental
- A private rental with no reception services

HolidaysInParis
An apartment from the same company I also recommended in the 4th arrondissement, and here too the standard is consistent: air conditioning, a washing machine, a kitchenette with a fridge and a microwave, and an elevator in the building. The location is right next to Place de la République, one of the most efficient hubs in Paris: five metro lines meet here, and from here you get to the Marais, the Canal Saint-Martin and the Bastille without changing trains. Note that the square itself is very busy, and it’s where large demonstrations and events take place in Paris, sometimes at short notice. I recommend asking for a unit that faces the courtyard and not the square, and checking the events calendar before you go.
- Air-conditioned, with a washing machine and an elevator
- Right next to Place de la République, where five metro lines meet
- Place de la République is busy and used for events and demonstrations
-

Canal Saint-Martin
A renovated 35 m² apartment (about 375 sq ft) on Rue Bichat, just fifty meters from the Canal Saint-Martin. It sleeps up to four: a bedroom, a living room with a double sofa bed and another sofa, parquet floors, and a TV with satellite channels. The kitchen is open and seriously equipped: induction stove, oven, microwave, a large fridge, a dishwasher and a washing machine. The canal itself is the reason to choose this place: the swing bridges, the trees over the water, and a young crowd sitting on the edge with a bottle of wine on summer evenings. Place de la République is six hundred meters away and Gare de l’Est seven hundred. Note that the apartment is on the third floor and there’s no elevator. I recommend it if you’re coming to live the neighborhood and not just to sleep in it.
- Fifty meters from the canal, right by the water
- An open kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven and a washing machine
- No elevator, and the apartment is on the third floor

APPARTEMENT GARE DE LEST-PARIS 10
A one-bedroom apartment with a sofa bed, on a busy street a short walk from Gare de l’Est, one of the big train stations of Paris. The location is especially good if you’re arriving in Paris or leaving it by train and don’t want to drag your suitcases far. A score of 8.6 from 36 reviews points to consistency. It sleeps up to four guests, with a double bed and a sofa bed, which makes it a reasonable option for a small family. Good to know: the street itself is busy and full of shops, not a perfectly quiet street, which suits anyone who prefers lively city life.
- A short walk from Gare de l’Est
- A sofa bed, sleeps 4 guests
- A busy shopping street, not completely quiet
Apartments for 5 guests or more

Ecoloflat
Fifty-five square meters (about 590 sq ft) at 77 Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis, in a building with character set around a green, paved courtyard, so it’s surprisingly quiet compared with the street outside. The ceilings here are over three meters high and there’s a wide patio door, which gives you a real sense of space. Two bedrooms with double beds and a sofa bed in the living room, so up to six people, and a full kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven and a washing machine. The apartment has an eco-label, and the owners have lived in the neighborhood for more than ten years and share real recommendations. The Strasbourg-Saint-Denis (lines 4, 8, 9) and Gare de l’Est (lines 5, 7) metro stations are nearby. Note that a crib kit costs 20 euros for the whole stay. I recommend it for two families looking for real space.
- 55 m² with three-meter ceilings, on a quiet paved courtyard
- Two bedrooms and a sofa bed, up to six guests
- No elevator, and a crib kit costs 20 euros extra

LivinParis Luxury
A large apartment with a clean, modern design that sleeps up to six people, from the same company I also recommended in the 3rd arrondissement. What sets them apart is buildings with character: high ceilings, exposed beams and stone walls, along with a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine. The location is very practical if you’re arriving by train: about a ten-minute walk from Gare du Nord, so from both the Eurostar and the direct train to Charles de Gaulle airport, with no dragging suitcases through the metro. Note that most of the company’s buildings have no elevator, and they take a 500-euro deposit in advance. I recommend checking the floor with them before you book, especially if you’re coming with large suitcases.
- A large, elegant apartment for up to six guests
- About a ten-minute walk from Gare du Nord
- No elevator in most of the company’s buildings

NEW Paradis Flat
A 70 m² apartment (about 750 sq ft) on Rue de Paradis, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a balcony with a view of the city, an equipped kitchen and a washing machine. There’s an elevator and a concierge service. The real story here is the owner: he’s a prolific painter and the apartment is full of his work, and both of them, he and his wife, are passionate cooks. The kitchen is equipped far beyond what’s usual in a rental, and the covered Marché Saint-Quentin, one of the loveliest markets in Paris, is a few minutes away. Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est are within walking distance, and Bonne Nouvelle station is close by. Note that there are no cribs and no extra beds, and quiet hours apply from 11 p.m. I recommend it if you plan to cook, and this area gives you plenty to cook with.
- 70 m² with two bedrooms and two bathrooms
- A balcony with a view, an elevator and a concierge
- No cribs and no extra beds

Superb Large and New 4bds Flat – Heart of Paris 10
A large four-bedroom apartment on Rue de Paradis, a quiet street in a part of the 10th that has been revived in recent years. The score is especially high, 9.3 from 24 reviews, which is rare for an apartment this size. The four bedrooms give real privacy to an extended family or to two families who want to share one apartment without giving up their personal space. The area is less known to tourists than the central arrondissements, but it’s close enough to walk to the Grands Boulevards and the Canal Saint-Martin. Good to know: a new apartment like this one may lack the historic charm of older buildings, in exchange for modern comfort.
- Four bedrooms, real privacy
- A score of 9.3, rare for an apartment this size
- New, so less historic charm
-

Appartement familiale sauna Paris 10
A family apartment on Rue Robert Blache, close to the Canal Saint-Martin and Gare de l’Est, that sleeps up to eight guests. The surprising detail: a private sauna inside the apartment, which is very rare in short-term rentals in Paris and adds an experience you won’t find in an ordinary apartment. A score of 8.8 from 34 reviews points to real consistency and not to luck. Over the last decade the area around the Canal Saint-Martin has become one of the most sought-after in the arrondissement, full of cafés and places to go out along the banks of the canal. Good to know: running the sauna may take a quick lesson from the host, and not every guest will actually use it.
- A private sauna in the apartment, very rare
- Up to eight guests, right for an extended family
- Using the sauna may take a lesson from the host

Jins cosy apartment at Paris 10eme
A two-bedroom suite on Rue Jacques Louvel-Tessier, a small, quiet street a short walk from the Canal Saint-Martin. Three different kinds of beds, including a bunk bed, give flexibility to mixed groups, like parents with kids or friends of different ages. A score of 8.6 from 22 reviews keeps up a good standard. The area is considered one of the most neighborly in the 10th, less touristy than the main streets, with independent shops and local cafés. Good to know: the bunk bed doesn’t suit every group, so check in advance that it works for yours.
- Two bedrooms, flexible with a bunk bed
- A real neighborhood, less touristy
- The bunk bed doesn’t suit every group
