Site language

This page explains, in plain words, what information this site collects when you read it, why, and what you can do about it. Francophiles Anonymous is a personal site that I, Zvi Chazanov, have been writing since 2013. I do not sell your data, and I do not run ads that follow you around the internet.

What I collect

  • Visit statistics: which pages are read, roughly from which country, on which kind of device and from which referring site. I use these numbers to decide what to write next and which pages need an update. I look at them in aggregate, not person by person.
  • Link clicks: when you click a link to a booking or ticket site, the site counts the click per day and per page. The count does not include your name, your email or your IP address.
  • Emails you send me: if you write to me, I keep your message and your address so I can answer you. I do not add you to any mailing list.

There are no user accounts for readers, comments are closed, and there is no newsletter signup on the English site, so I do not ask you for personal details anywhere.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file your browser keeps for a website. This site uses a few of them:

  • Essential cookies: set by Cloudflare, which protects the site from attacks and spam, and a cookie that remembers your choice about cookies. The site cannot work properly without them.
  • Analytics cookies: set by Usermaven, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count visits. These are used only if you agree to them in the cookie banner.
  • Third-party cookies: some pages show embedded content, such as YouTube videos, Booking.com search boxes or ticket widgets. When you use them, those companies may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing the cookies for this site in your browser. The banner will then ask you again.

Some links on this site are affiliate links to Booking.com, Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Omio and Classictic. When you click one, you leave this site, and the partner site uses its own cookies to know that you came from here, so the site can earn a small commission. You pay the same price. Anything you book there is handled by that company under its privacy policy, not mine. More details are on the affiliate disclosure page.

Who else sees the data

The site is hosted by WPX and served through Cloudflare. Like any web server, they process technical data such as your IP address in order to deliver the pages and block attacks. Visit statistics are processed by Usermaven. Apart from these service providers, I do not share or sell information about readers to anyone.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have the right to ask what information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. Since I collect so little, the answer is usually short, but I will always reply.
