One of the glitches of my life is that I only discovered Paris at 37. Glitches have to be fixed, and since then I’ve already been to the City of Light twice. The last time, I joined my partner on a business trip (who am I to turn down a couple’s getaway in Paris?), and the hotel was such a success that I just had to share it with you.

On my last visit to London two years ago, I had already fallen for the Hoxton. After wandering around East London in the rain looking for a café, I walked into the Hoxton Shoreditch and was simply blown away! I sat in the hotel café for two whole hours and couldn’t stop gushing over the design, the food and the super-cool atmosphere. I wandered through the restaurants, drank wine, peeked into the event rooms and soaked up every design detail. Since then I’ve checked out more hotels in the chain and found out that a new Hoxton had opened in Paris (in addition to hotels in Amsterdam and London, with a first US hotel set to open soon in Brooklyn).

A Little Background

The hotel is in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, within walking distance of most of the main sights (the Marais, the Tuileries Garden and the Louvre…). The building started out as an 18th-century mansion, and it has 170 rooms. Sounds like a lot? It’s built in a way that makes it feel like a small boutique hotel. The hotel was designed by Humbert & Poyet, a Paris studio responsible for the concept and the design of every room. The design concept is really the history of the building and its urban surroundings: put all of that together and you get an incredible source of inspiration for the spaces.

The Restaurants and Bars

It’s pretty rare, I think, to be in Paris and eat at your hotel so many times! But Rivié, the hotel restaurant, is so good that we kept going back. Breakfast isn’t included in the room rate, but the avocado toast there is too perfect to pass up… The glass roof fills the place with light during the day, so do consider breakfast or lunch there.

The hotel’s public floor has several seating areas and a patio with an amazing green wall. The restaurant serves all of them, as well as this chic bar with the blue velvet and brass chairs so typical of a French brasserie. The menu is excellent modern French, with a seriously impressive drinks list. But! If cocktails are your thing, head up the stairs… and there…

The Jacques cocktail bar sits at the top of the spiral staircase, and it serves only cocktails! The bar is fairly small but impeccably designed in an exotic spirit, with floral wallpaper and fringed lamps. And the best part? You can drink to your heart’s content and then just walk down the stairs to your room and, hop, into bed! No taxi and no coat!

The Rooms

If you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t, you’re welcome to), you already know about my fondness for dancing in hotel lobbies, in the kids’ room or on hotel beds. It’s kind of my thing 🙂 So of course I always have to get the best room in the hotel (within budget, okay? I didn’t go for the presidential suite here), because it has to look its best for the ‘gram. And then what happens? My partner is the one who grumbles, because he has to pack up and move all our stuff to the new room. And this time, for the first time ever, the first room I got was nothing short of perfect! Shocking!! The French Republic gave me a round of applause!

The hotel has four types of rooms. If you book far enough in advance, the prices are really reasonable!! How reasonable? Between 190 and 300 euros, depending on the size of the room. And trust me, for Paris those are excellent prices! The room names describe their size: Shoebox, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy.

(Can my bedroom at home look like this, please? Thanks, bye)

A few tips! Ask about rooms on the ground floor: they open onto the patio and have extra-high ceilings. A few more perks I only discovered after I left: a full hour of international calls from every room! A goodie bag on the door handle every morning, free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and mineral water.

(I was practically bursting with happiness)

And how did I forget to mention one small fact: I also had three days alone in Paris! My partner flew home before me, and I made the most of that time with endless showers, sleeping diagonally across the bed, waking up without an alarm, indulgent meals with nobody’s fork in my plate and so much more… If you’re a mom and haven’t done any of these things lately, I highly recommend a few days alone abroad!!

What’s Nearby

If you’re planning a trip to Paris this fall, a stroll in the Tuileries Garden is an absolute must!!! The golden autumn leaves are a feast for the eyes. Also within walking distance of the hotel are the Louvre and the Marais.

Another tip I discovered: the hotel has two Instagram accounts. One is the chain’s official account, with photos of the hotels, their guests, the restaurants and events. The second is called Hoxfriends, and it posts the best tips on places to go out near the chain’s hotels. Highly recommended!!

A Few Words About the Author

Hi there! I’m Tamar Mor, or in full, Tamar Tirtza Haim Mor Madens (let’s just stick with Tamar Mor 🙂 )

I’m an interior designer, addicted to the internet and to beautiful things. I live online, especially when it comes to design, fashion and online shopping. So instead of keeping it all to myself (it gets a bit much), I decided to write about it, photograph it, share it or dance it (I swear!! It’s a great method. It’s all in my Stories).

On ROOMER you’ll find inspiration from the things that inspire me (it’s worth it!): from perfect apartments abroad, through hot reports on all the trends in home design and fashion, and of course the thing we love most, online shopping! Why should I be the only one spending money? There’s enough shopping for everyone…
