The 19th arrondissement of Paris is fairly far from the center, but if you don’t mind a bit of a metro ride, you’ll discover a real gem. The biggest advantage here is the price: hotels here are much cheaper than in the central areas.
But it’s not just about the money. The 19th is home to the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, maybe the most beautiful and romantic park in the city, and to the futuristic Parc de la Villette with its science museum. On top of that, the canals run through the arrondissement (the Bassin de la Villette, which opens into the Canal Saint-Martin), with trendy spots for picnics and evenings out that the locals love. If you choose to sleep near Place de Stalingrad or along the canal, you’ll have very easy access to the metro and to every part of the city.

Recommended hotels in the 19th arrondissement

Holiday Inn Express
A hundred and forty-four rooms on nine floors on the bank of the Bassin de la Villette, in a wood-clad building that’s hard to miss. The rooms were renovated in 2019 and the public areas in 2023, and thirty-two of the rooms have a balcony or a view of the marina. Breakfast is included in the price and served from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m., there’s a large terrace facing the canal and a private parking garage under the building, and the family rooms are 25 square meters (about 270 square feet) for four. The Riquet metro station on line 7 is a two-minute walk away. Note that there’s no restaurant in the hotel, only light food at the bar. I recommend asking for a Superior room with a canal view.
- Breakfast included in the price
- A terrace facing the canal
- No restaurant in the hotel

Campanile La Villette
A large hotel on the Avenue de Flandre with its own restaurant, which is a real asset when you arrive with tired kids at eight in the evening. There are family rooms for four, a free baby cot and eight accessible rooms, all air-conditioned. There’s also a private parking garage with an electric charging point, and if you skip daily cleaning you get five euros back. The Corentin Cariou and Crimée stations on line 7 are about a quarter of a kilometer away, and the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is within walking distance. Note that the hotel sits right by the Périphérique, at the northern edge of Paris. I recommend it for families who want dinner without going out.
- A restaurant in the hotel itself
- Family rooms for four
- Right by the Périphérique

Maison Urbaine
Just nineteen rooms on Rue de Crimée, in a fully renovated 19th-century building: parquet floors, soundproof windows and air conditioning in every room. There’s a lounge bar and a coffee corner, and the continental breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. The Crimée station on line 7 is 120 meters away, and the Bassin de la Villette is a four-minute walk, which also means the three outdoor pools that open there for free from mid-June to mid-September. Note that the hotel is very small, that pets aren’t allowed and that the rooms are compact. I recommend booking early, because nineteen rooms go fast in summer.
- A renovated 19th-century building
- 120 meters from the metro
- Only nineteen rooms
-

Libertel Canal
About forty rooms on the Avenue Secrétan, in a hotel that sits right between the Canal Saint-Martin, the Bassin de la Villette and Buttes-Chaumont. The breakfast room is colorful and pleasant, the reception is open around the clock, and cold water is set out for guests all day. The Jaurès station, with lines 2, 5 and 7 bis, is 120 meters away, and from there it’s two stops to the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l’Est. Pets are welcome for an extra fee, and the rooms are air-conditioned with a coffee and tea tray. Note that when you book, it isn’t always clear whether you’ll get a double bed or two separate beds. I recommend stating what you want clearly in the booking notes, because they can usually accommodate it.
- Three metro lines around the corner
- Cold water at the reception all day
- The bed type isn’t guaranteed in advance
