Montmartre started out as a small village located on the northern borders of Paris, and was annexed to the City of Lights in 1860. Shortly afterwards it became the hub of the most ingenious painters, sculptures, and even musicians. In this tour we will follow their footsteps, and find out what made Montmartre into a stronghold of creativity.
We will begin our tour in La Nouvelle Athènes neighbourhood, where some of the most famous 19th-century courtesans used to reside. From there we will start our climb along Rue des Martyrs, one of the most famous culinary streets in Paris. We’ll see Moulin Rouge, and hear the story of its biggest star and how he was connected to the famous film “Blazing Saddles” by Mel Brooks. Speaking of films, no trip to the Montmartre will be complete without visiting Amelie’s coffee shop, right? But this is only the beginning, now the real climb begins, and we’re going to discover the Montmartre of Picasso, Braque and Toulose Lautrec in all its glory. The tour will end in a Panoramic view of Paris from the Sacré Cœur, and if you love chansons, you can then come with me to “Au Lapin Agile”, a 100-years old establishment, which somehow managed not to become a tourist trap.
